Pinellas County is located in the state of Florida. The county seat is Clearwater and the county's largest city is St. Petersburg. The county is contained entirely within area code (727), except for parts of Oldsmar, which has area code 813.
Pinellas County seperated from Hillsborough County in 1911 and was named for the Spanish Punta Piñal "Point of Pines" or "Piney Point". The Pinellas County peninsula seperates Tampa Bay from the Gulf of Mexico.
